Tom's Super Fun Weekend

Last weekend was the best! I had so much fun hanging out with my friend Tom. We did all sorts of awesome things together. Let me tell you all about it!

On Friday after school, Tom came over to my house. First we just chilled in my room playing video games for a bit. We played Smash Bros. and took turns being different characters. I was Pikachu and he was Bowser. He almost beat me when he used Bowser's fire breath attack, but then I used my thunder bolt and knocked him right off the stage! We both laughed so hard. After a little while, we got kind of bored of the games so we decided to go outside. We grabbed our bikes and rode around the neighborhood. Tom and I raced each other up and down the hills. I was pedaling as fast as I could, but Tom is such a good biker that he beat me every time. He has really strong legs from all the sports he plays.

When we got tired of riding bikes, we went to the park near my house. There's a great hiking trail there that winds through the woods. As we were walking along, we saw a deer nibbling on some leaves! We stopped for a minute and watched it until it

noticed us and bounded away. I love seeing animals like that in nature. The trail ends at this huge oak tree that must be

hundreds of years old. Tom and I took a break and climbed up in the branches for a little while. We could see clear across the park from up there!

After our hike, we headed back to my house for dinner. My mom made her famous spaghetti and meatballs - so delicious! Tom said his mom doesn't make good spaghetti like that. Poor guy! We stuffed ourselves until we could barely move. Then we decided to have a movie night. We made a big fort in the living room out of blankets and pillows, then watched a bunch of silly comedies and ate tons of popcorn and candy. We stayed up way too late laughing at all the funny parts.

The next morning, we got up early because we were going camping with Tom's family. His dad drove us about an hour away to this great campground in the mountains. Once we got there and set up our tent, we hiked some more on the trails around the camp. Tom's little brother kept trying to find cool rocks and interesting plants to show us. I have to admit, some of them were pretty neat! We saw a banana slug as big as my hand inching across the path. So gross but fascinating at the same time!

For lunch, Tom's dad grilled up hot dogs and we got to roast marshmallows for s'mores. S'mores are my absolute favorite camping treat. There's nothing better than warm, gooey marshmallows and chocolate sandwiched between two crunchy graham crackers. I probably ate way too many of those!

After lunch, we went down to the lake. Tom's family rented a little motorboat and we all went out riding around. The water was freezing cold, but Tom and I jumped in for a few minutes anyway to go swimming. We could see all the way to the bottom in some parts - the water was so clear and blue. When we got tired of swimming, we laid out on the boat and tried to get a little sun. I ended up falling asleep for a bit!

When I woke up, we headed back to shore. As soon as we got back to the campsite, we had a big camping classic for dinner: hot dogs and baked beans! We got a campfire going and made s'mores again for dessert. Yum!

That night after it got dark, we told spooky ghost stories around the campfire. Tom's stories were so ridiculous and silly that I couldn't stop laughing the whole time. A few times I laughed so hard that I snorted and scared myself! After the stories, we did a nighttime hike along one of the trails. The trees looked awesome with just the moonlight shining through. We

used our flashlights to see the path, but kept turning them off to get a look at all the bright stars overhead. I don't think I've ever seen that many stars before! It was breathtaking.

When we finally went to bed, I knocked out immediately. I was absolutely exhausted from such an fun-packed day. The next morning after we packed up camp, we stopped for pancakes at a diner before heading home. The pancakes tasted so good after eating just camping food. I put way too much syrup on mine, but hey, you only live once right?

Overall, it was such an awesome weekend spending time with my buddy Tom. We rarely get to do activities like that during the school week. I'll never forget all the laughs, inside jokes, and great memories we made in just a couple days. Tom's family was so nice to include me on their camping trip too. I'm really lucky to have such a phenomenal friend! I can't wait for our next big adventure.
