Mark Twain was born in 1835 and he was not a healthy baby. In fact, he was not expected to live through the first winter. But with his mother’s care, he managed to survive. At the age of 70, his hair was completely white. He bought many white suits and neckties. He wore nothing but white from head to foot until his death on April 21, 1910. 21. In Mark Twain’s childhood, ________. A.he learned a lot at school

Most people, when they travel to space, would like to stay in orbit for a few days or more. And this stands to reason, if you’re paying $20,000 for your trip to orbit(轨道)! So in order for tourism to reach its full potential there’s going to be a need for orbital accommodation --- or space hotels. What would a space hotel actually be like to visit? Hotels in orbit will offer the services you expect from a hotel --- private rooms, meals, bars. But they’ll also offer two unique experiences: impressive views --- of Earth and space --- and the endless entertainment of living in zero gravity --- including sports and other activities that make use of this.

The hotels themselves will vary greatly --- from being quite simple in the early days to huge luxury structure at a later date. It’s actually surprising that as later as 1997, very few designs for space hotels were published. This is mainly because those who might be expected to design them haven’t expected launch(发射) costs to come down far enough to make them possible.

Lots of people who’ve been to space have described vividly what it’s like to live in zero gravity. There are obviously all sorts of possibilities for dancing, gymnastics, and zero-G sports. Luckily, you don’t need to sleep much living in zero gravity, so you’ll have plenty of time for relaxing by hanging out in a bar with a window looking down at the turning Earth below.

Of course all good things have come to an end, unfortunately. And so after a few days you’ll find yourself heading back though you’ll be much more expert at exercising in zero gravity than you were when you arrive. You’ll be thinking how soon you can save up enough to get back up again --- or maybe you should change jobs to get to work in an orbiting hotel.

24. When traveling in space, most people would like to stay in orbit for a few days because _______.

A. It is expensive to travel in space

B. they would find the possible life in other star systems C. they could enjoy the luxury of space hotels D. they want to realize the full potential of tourism

25. Which of the following is a unique experience that space hotels will offer? A. The gravitational pull B. The special views. C. The relaxation in a bar. D. The space walk. 26. This passage is mainly about ________. A. traveling in space

B. the ways of living in space hotels C. zero gravity and space hotels D. the description of space hotels

The Internet has opened up a whole new online world for us to meet, chat and go where we’ve never been before.

But just as in face to face communication, there are some rules of behavior that should be followed when on line. 31 Imagine how you’d feel if you were in the other person’s shoes.

For anything you’re about to send: ask yourself, “Would I say this to the person’s face?” If the answer is no, rewrite and reread. 32 If someone in the chat room is rude to you, your instinct (本能) is to fire back in the same manner. But try not to do so. 33 If it was caused by a disagreement with another member, try to fix the situation by politely discussing it. Remember to respect the beliefs and opinions of others in the chat room.

34 Offer advice when asked by newcomers, as they may not be sure what to do or how to communicate. When someone makes a mistake, whether it’s a stupid question or an unnecessarily long answer, be kind about it. If it’s a small mistake, you may not need to say anything. Even if you feel strongly about it, think twice before saying anything. Having good manners yourself doesn’t give you license to correct everyone else. 35 At the same time, if you find you are wrong, be sure to correct yourself and apologize to those that you have offended.

- 3 -

It is not polite to ask others personal questions such as their age, sex and marital status. Unless you know the person very well, and you are both comfortable with sharing personal information, don’t ask such questions.

B. Repeat the process till you feel sure that you’d feel comfortable saying the words to the person’s

face.

C. Everyone was new to the network once.

D. The basic rule is simple: treat others in the same way you would want to be treated.

E. When you send short messages to a person online, you must say something beautiful to hear. F. You should either ignore the person, or use your chat software to block their messages. G. If you do decide to tell someone about a mistake, point it out politely.

Knowing that your are interested in the Dragon Boat Festival in Hainan, I am writing to tell you about it and give you some advice.

The Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on May 5th at lunar calendar, is an important Chinese festival in memory of a great poet named Qu Yuan. It is said that Qu Yan committed suicide by drowning himself in the Miluo River. Knowing him to be a good man, local people rowed boats along the river in search of him. They also threw rice into the river to feed the fish so that they would not eat Qu’s body. That’s why Chinese people celebrate the festival by eating Zongzi and holding dragon boat competitions.

Zongzi is a kind of dumpling made of glutinous rice with meat and eggs inside. The most famous Zongzi in Hainan are those made in Danzhou City and Ding’an County. I suggest you try some. I also recommend that you watch the grand dragon boat competition in Chengmai County. It is one of the most exciting competitions across Hainan. You won’t forget it.

Wish you a pleasant journey around Hainan. Yours, Li Hua
