A Hero
Do you still remember that moment? The whole nation is taking breath to wait for the coming back of the flying man---LIU Xiang, who is the Olympic Gold medalist and World Champion, being the first in a men’s track and field event for China. His withdrawing from competition in 2004 Beijing Olympic Games had smashed billions of people. Yet, in that day’s game, he ended up with a kiss to a hurdle and left a lonely back shadow. What do you think about that?
Some people asked why LIU Xiang got injured in every Olympic game. It is on purpose or just by chance?
Now, there are three pictures about LIU Xiang. In the middle one, he won the gold medal in 2004 Olympic game. From then on, he was labeled as the flying man and like a hero in our country.
2008, the whole nation fixed their gaze on him with expectation; however, he quit the competition. In that moment, expectation and sadness, this describes the heartbeat of national people.
2012, he selected the same number, and ended up with the same bitter result.
Some people held that we should look at LIU Xiang with a tolerant attitude. However, others thought he disappointed all the Chinese and shouldn’t have given up.
As we all know, LIU Xiang is the athlete who was given too much
expectation. From the moment that he won the champion, he bore the expectations from 13 hundred million people. Can you imagine how much the pressure is?
Now I want to say that LIU Xiang is just a normal person not a god. Proper pressure is a kind of motivation, but too much can make someone die. In Chinese eyes, the athlete wining a gold medal is a hero, others will let us down. As a result, some athletes who won a silver medal had to apologize to Chinese. Obviously, Chinese possess a wrong idea about Olympic spirit. If so, if an athlete didn’t win a gold medal, maybe he would be put into prison.
Therefore, from now on, we need to change our mind about Olympic spirit, because our athletes are more important than gold medals.
