A device for handling patients in a sitting positioncomprises a frame 13 with arms 17 which hinge open and are closed round the patientand a sling 23, 24. The sling is attached to the frame by key-hole plates and the portions23 cross over behind the patient and hold the arms 17 of the frame in the closed position.Hand grips 27 are provided on the sling. The frame 13 is hooked on to a bracket 7 of alifting device 1 which is moved up and down a column 5 by rotating a handle 6. The sling ismade of polyvinylchloride.
