Chapter 6: Likes or Dislikes

个人的感情喜好一直是谈论的经典话题，每个人都有不同的爱好，
但是遗憾的是在句子的表达方式中几乎都是相同的，例如：Do you like watching movies? 回答都是千篇一律的：Yes, I like watching movies.这样的回答首先给人的感觉是单调，重复，其次是没有native speakers 回答时的本土感。在这一章中大家要学会对于喜好或厌恶的不同表达方式。自然的呢？听听下面的一段对话体验一下吧：
Task 1: you are going to hear a conversation between two students, while listening, underline some useful phrases about Likes and Dislikes.
A: what do you think of the people in our class? I think most of them are fine. B: I think so too. But I don’t like Mark. He’s so arrogant. I despise arrogant people. A: Mike is fascinating. I’m fond of people who have something intelligent to say. B: Carol’s fun to be with. I really look forward to hearing her jokes. What do you think of Tom?
A: he’s alright. I don’t dislike him, but I don’t really like him much either. What do you think of him?
B: I think he’s ok. He’s very quiet, so it’s hard to know what kind of person he really is.

A: I’m fond of Jane. She’s a very interesting girl. She’s crazy about boy-bands. B: Really? I’m mad on them too. I should get to know her better. Are you keen on music?
A: I think that dance music is excellent. I love going to a disco and dancing to the music. I enjoy meeting new people there.
B: My parents loathe dance music. If I play it at home, they always complain. Are your parents the same?
A: My mom hates it, but my dad thinks its ok. He doesn’t mind as long as I don’t play the music too loud.
B: well, I have to say that you are really lucky!
Task 2: Pair Work. Now, role-play the conversation in Task 1 with your partner. Then it is required for you to remember these phrases and expressions below. Likes:

Task 3: Interpret or translate these sentences by yourself, then exchange your answers with your partner and teacher.
1. Expressing Likes
我很崇拜周杰伦，他的歌非常受欢迎。(adore, popular)
我很喜欢小动物，特别是猫。(be fond of, especially)
Peter对中国功夫很痴狂，他的偶像是李小龙。(be crazy about , his idol, Bruce Lee)
我对布拉德.皮特很着迷，他太酷了。(be mad about/be crazy about)

我对上网很有瘾。(be addicted to)

2. Expressing Dislikes
我不喜欢迟到。（hate）
我特别讨厌随地吐痰的人。(totally detest)
考试是我最不愿意做的事情。（the last thing）
我不能容忍Mike的粗鲁。(can’t put up with/fed up with)
“你喜爱古典音乐吗？” “一点也不。”(not in the least)
我已厌倦了快餐，它们是垃圾食品。(sick and tired of, junk food)
3. Expressing Indifference

我一点也不在乎。（care）
对于我来说都一样。(the same)
“你喜欢你的工作吗？”“一般般了”(more or less )
“你觉得意大利菜怎么样”“还行吧。但我不是特别喜欢”(alright. not much)
Task 4: Discuss these questions with your partner: Do you like animals?
What kinds of music do you hate listening to? What sports do you enjoy watching but not playing? Is there any food you don’t like? What type of weather do you dislike? What are you sick and tired of these days?
Examples answers:
Do you like animals?
To be honest, I’m actually quite keen on animals, especially dogs. I suppose the reason why I’m a fan of dogs is because I adore their loyalty and companionship. In addition, they have very adorable looks which make you love them so much.
Is there any food you don’t like?

Well, I guess I would say I’m really sick and tired of fast food. Coz I eat it every single day, what I mean is that I am fed up with those fried chicken and hamburgers which people now call them “junk food”. So, I want to have a change of my diet.
Common Errors:
错误：I am interesting in movies. 正确：I am interested in movies. 错误：I am like swimming . 正确：I like swimming. 错误： I like to go to shopping. 正确：I like to go shopping.
Notes :关于 like/ like to/would like to/ love 的细微区别
首先在表达中，like 的感情色彩没有love强烈。
其次，like doing something 表达一种习惯，而like to do something 只表达一次的喜好，如I like to see a movie tonight 和 I like seeing movies 就有区别。Would like to ＝ want to 想要…… 通常在回答do you like something时，不要说yes, I like something.地道的回答可以为：“yes, I do. 或 definitely. I’m very into it.”Native speakers通常回答问题时不重复问句中的动词。
